Eligibility assessment process - Molecular and Cellular Neurosciences (M.Sc.)
Criteria for personal disciplinary suitability
Only those who have submitted a complete application on time may participate in the eligibility assessment process.
Applicants are allocated suitability points. Suitability points for the final grade point average or preliminary overall grade of the first university degree and for the certified additional qualification(s) are first assigned based on the submitted documents:
- Up to 3 suitability points are assigned for the average grade:
Grade points 1.0 to 1.9 => 3 points
Grade points 2.0 to 2.5 => 2 points
based on the grade scale according to § 28 of the General Terms
- Additional qualification
1 point is assigned for additional personal disciplinary suitability criteria. Only one of the three listed discipline-specific criteria may be applied.- Relevant professional experience in the neurosciences (training or work certification) or
- Internship in the neurosciences (at least 8 weeks; only performance in addition to the study program counts) or
- Subject or expansion module in the major topic of the neurosciences in the completed program (minimum of 9 credit points according to ECTS)
Applicants who have received 3 or more suitability points are invited to a selection interview with the selection commission.
Selection interview
The first selection interviews are performed at the end of May/early June; additional interview dates are provided in mid/late August.
The selection interview focuses on the interest and suitability of the applicant, which are evaluated based on the following parameters:
- Presentation of interest by the applicant
- Examination of existing discipline-specific knowledge
- Brief presentation of the bachelor's thesis by the applicant in the German or English language (clarity and rigor of the presentation, classification in the state of current knowledge, open questions, possible further development of the topic)
The selection interview is evaluated with 0 to 15 points.
Candidates who achieve more than 12 points are considered suitable.
Documents to be submitted
- Application for admission
- Bachelor's degree certificate. If this is not available, a Transcript of Records with a calculated average grade on the basis of at least 80% of the credits required for the bachelor's degree (according to ECTS) can alternatively be submitted.
- The Transcript of Records for determining your previous course contents (according to ECTS)
- Additional certifications of personal disciplinary suitability, which relate to the criteria indicated in paragraph 1.b).
- Certification of skills in the English language at Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe
