Eligibility assessment process - Sustainable Development (M.Sc.)

1. Documents to be submitted

The following documents and evidence are required for participation in the eligibility assessment process:

a) Application for admission (online application submitted via the online admission portal).

b) The first university diploma/certificate including final grade.

c) The transcript of records to establish your previous coursework and knowledge of economics, geography, social sciences, and related complementary sciences (e.g. mathematics, statistics).

d) Proof of English language proficiency at level C1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

e) Application letter in English (ca. one A4 page) outlining your personal subject-related eligibility based on personal commitment, teamwork and social skills, intercultural competence, self-reflective working capability, practical experience in the field of sustainable development, and foreign language abilities.

f) Curriculum vitae in tabular form (one A4 page).

g) If applicable, further proof of personal professional eligibility relating to the above criteria.

2. Criteria for personal disciplinary suitability

A total of up to 10 eligibility points can be awarded in the EAP. An applicant is considered eligible if they receive at least 6 points.

Determination of eligibility is based on the following criteria:

a) Points for the overall grade of the qualifying university degree are awarded as follows:

  • Grade points 15.0 to 12.5 (decimal grade 0.7 to 1.5) = 3 points
  • Grade points 12.4 to 9.5 (decimal grade 1.6 to 2.5) = 2 points
  • Grade points 9.4 to 7.9 (decimal grade 2.6 to 3.0) = 1 point

(Grading scale according to §28 of the general regulations of the University of Marburg)

b) Supplementary qualifications related to the subject of study (maximum 6 points).

  • One point each will be awarded for: (1) proof of a semester abroad and (2) proof of at least one year of active, subject-related volunteer work.
  • Up to two points will be awarded for proof of a subject-related internship:
    At least two months = 1 point
    At least six months = 2 points
  • Up to two points will be awarded for additional CP related to economic or social science methodology beyond the required 10 CP in the subjects of qualitative research, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, cartography, empirical social research, and/or empirical economic research:
    Total methodological knowledge of 12 CP = 1 point.
    Total methodological knowledge of 14 CP = 2 points.

 

c) Application letter and supplemental criteria (maximum 1 point).

Application letter outlining your personal subject-related eligibility based on personal commitment, teamwork and social skills, intercultural competence, self-reflective working capability, practical experience in the field of sustainable development, and foreign language abilities.
