After completing the degree programme, you will be able to understand and present the cultural diversity of the Middle East. You will learn one of the three modern languages of the region (Turkish, Persian, Arabic) or the historical language, Akkadian. Furthermore, the major enables you to understand the historical background, and to place (and discuss) different contemporary cultures of the Middle East in an academic context.
A wide range of compulsory elective modules (e.g. “The World of the Ancient Near East”, “Economics of the Middle East” or “Islam and Society”) will help you to hone your expertise.
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills.
Prospects
Graduates of the “Middle Eastern Studies” major will find career opportunities, in particular, in the fields of cultural mediation and intercultural training, cultural and academic management, foundation work, political and management consultancy, adult education, migration work, public relations, the media and tourism industry, language teaching, consultancy and expert services, as well as the organisation of international events and exhibitions.
The intensive language and specialist training at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) will give you the best possible preparation for entering the world of work.
The choice of your major subject will decisively shape your professional qualifications profile. In conjunction with one or two minor subjects, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.

General higher education entrance qualification or subject-related higher education entrance qualification1 or advanced technical college entrance qualification or master craftsman's examination as well as comparable qualifications of advanced vocational training or vocationally qualified persons
