Get basic insights into the Akkadian language and, depending on your chosen focus, insights into other Ancient Middle Eastern languages or cultural knowledge. Analyse the connections between your major subject and the minor subject “Ancient Oriental Studies” and reflect on the importance of studying both subjects for today’s culture. You can achieve this additional qualification objective through a skilful choice of non-graded work in the form of presentations and graded work in the form of coursework, and the course guidance service will assist you with this.

Prospects

The minor subject will qualify you to work at institutions that deal with the ancient world and its reception, such as academic institutions and museums, as well as in the library and publishing sector.

A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
