Description
The course of study in the subject "Deutsch als Fremdsprache / German as a foreign language" in the Teaching in Secondary Schools program is oriented based on the requirements of the practice of teaching German as a foreign language in secondary schools. The program content engages in theory and practice with the subject-related and teaching-related principles required for teaching the German language to people with different native languages, in order to teach German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language in an interesting and versatile way.
"Deutsch als Fremdsprache / German as a Foreign Language" can be studied at the Philipps University Marburg in the Teaching in Secondary Schools program as an extended subject. The program is completed with an Extended Examination, which can be taken after passing the First State Examination.
Major topics
The content of the "Deutsch als Fremdsprache / German as a Foreign Language" program takes multiple major topics into consideration:
linguistic studies, cultural and literature didactics, language teaching, psycholinguistics and didactics, as well as teaching practice.
This solid linguistic education in the German language teaches how the German language can be characterized with respect to its grammar, pronunciation and manners of use in order to instruct non-native speakers.
This also includes methodological knowledge of content-related concepts and teaching options for cultural topics and literary texts, which are required for learning a foreign language, not only for the actual language work, but also with respect to cultural knowledge and the knowledge of cultural differences, while being able to confront them.
An additional study focus teaches various methods of instruction and practical skills, on the one hand, and outcomes of teaching research on the effectiveness of individual methods and techniques of instruction, on the other.
Objectives
In addition to the major topic of Teaching German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language, the university education provides qualification for adult education domestically and abroad. The program provides future teachers with professional qualifications in the subject of German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language in order to analyze, plan, design and reflect educational processes in teaching.
