Description
The subject of "Geschichte / History" in the Teaching in Secondary Schools program is oriented based on the requirements of the practice of teaching History at secondary schools. The program imparts the subject-related and teaching-related principles for exercising the teaching profession at secondary schools and collects initial experiences in practical teaching in schools, following academic instruction.
The university education provides a broad spectrum of historical orientational knowledge from various eras and regions. It provides future teachers with refined historical scientific methods of acquiring knowledge that make it possible to obtain historical awareness under the transforming conditions of the present and to thus understand one's own historical-political position in the world.
The program qualifies students for academic work and for the socially responsible execution of the teaching profession based on the acquired expertise; that is, through knowledge, qualifications and perspectives.
The essential study goals in the subject of "Geschichte / History" include:
- Fundamental knowledge of history, economy, culture and government in their general and individual characteristics, in consideration of their continuities and discontinuities;
- Mastery of scientific working methods: criticism of sources and literature, conceptualization, classified and clear historical representation, terminology and words;
Insight into the theory and methods of historical science, orientation regarding its relationship to related disciplines and their methodological approaches and the possibilities of cross-subject collaboration.

Objectives
When the first State Examination is complete, teacher traineeship normally follows as pedagogical teaching practice.
Of course, other professional paths are also open to you in addition to the teaching profession - and the teaching traineeship - after successful completion of the first State Examination.
Some possible professional fields include, for example, science, museums and exhibitions, media and public relations, and much more.

NOTE: for admission to the modules "Historical fundamentals of Europe 1: ancient history," "Historical fundamentals of Europe 2: medieval history," "The development of modern history 1: the early modern period," and "The development of modern history 2: recent history," Latin skills within the scope of the Latinum must be certified. It is recommended to be able to verify these skills at the start of the program.
