Over four semesters, the Iranistik / Iranian Studies master's program provides you with well-founded scientific training in the fields of cultural studies and history. It imparts skills and methods in the field of Persian literature and culture and in the history of the Iranian world up to the present day. Familiarity with Persian, in its classical and modern embodiments, is both an educational goal as well as the foundation of scholarly work. The geographical area comprises modern Iran and Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the traditional Persophonic regions.
The Iranistik / Iranian Studies master's program builds on bachelor's programs in Oriental and Islamic Studies, but is also directed to graduates in other subjects with well-founded Persian knowledge. It is embedded in the broad range of courses of the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies, resulting in a highly interdisciplinary approach.

- Persian literature
- Medieval and recent/modern history of the Iranian world
- Cultural-anthropological studies of the Iranian societies of the present
Objectives
As a result of their active Persian language skills and their cultural and regional expertise, successful graduates have access to professions in the fields of media, publishing, journalism, political consulting and development aid.
In the academic field, there are professional options in science management, research and the library sector.
Career entry is supported by recognition of internships and stays abroad.
Admission requirements
Required university degree Degree from a subject-relevant bachelor's program in the Humanities and Social Sciences or certification of a comparable domestic or foreign qualifying university diploma. Good skills in Persian are required. These are demonstrated by documentation of completed modules/seminars from the field of Persian language education, of at least 24 SWS or at least 36 CP, by equivalent certifications.Admission Mode Direct admission is granted with complete fulfillment of the admission requirements.
