Students majoring in English receive intensive linguistic training in English. The primary focus is on the interaction of language use and power structures. This will teach you to analyse, describe and reflect on the role of language in social and media-centric negotiation processes, as well as its role in creating, maintaining and changing power structures in a scientifically sound manner. You can choose from modules on intercultural communication, sociolinguistics, critical discourse analysis, language and the media. Towards the end of your degree programme, you will also focus intensively on scholarly communication.
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire valuable, future-oriented skills.
Prospects
The primary fields of work include public relations, communications consultancy and related consulting work, but also the areas of university, human resources, publishing, media and media production, tourism and documentation and library services, science management, project management, content marketing, as well as language teaching in business and industry, advertising, politics, trade and transport.
The choice of your major subject will decisively shape your professional qualifications profile. In conjunction with one or two minor subjects, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
