In this course, you will learn the Spanish language intensively and acquire in-depth cultural-region-specific expertise relating to Spain and Latin America. You will acquire methods and theories from linguistics, literature and cultural studies in order to analyse and reflect upon cultural products and processes. In two voluntary semesters abroad, you will gain formative personal experiences in the Spanish-speaking world and apply academic questions on the spot. Together with the supervising professor, you will prepare yourself for the place of study abroad and design an academic project, which you will work on in the form of independent research on a question relating to linguistics, literature or cultural studies.
Prospects
In the context of the academic and practical linguistic education, the major subject is aligned to the professional fields of cultural, textual and public relations work with regard to the Spanish-speaking world. These include in particular:
- cultural institutes (German cultural institutes abroad and institutes of the Spanish-speaking countries in Germany)
- cultural and public relations work
- culture management
- theatres
- political institutions
- areas of intercultural communication (in the public administration, judiciary, etc.)
- the media and the press
- publishing houses
