Major topics
This degree programme leads you to a Master's degree within two semesters. Based on cultural studies and sociolinguistic questions, you will deal with interrelations between Romance cultures, with issues relating to variation, language use and language contact, as well as with linguistic-political aspects and analyses of literary and media products. During this year, you can once again focus specifically on academic subjects and systematically expand your language and cultural skills and put them into practice in various independent project work.
Objectives
The degree programme trains you to become an expert in Romance-language cultures, opening up a wide range of career opportunities for you in the fields of science and communication, both in the European cultural space and internationally:
- Research and teaching in the field of Romance linguistics, literature and cultural studies
- Language and cultural mediation in intercultural institutions
Editorial professions (publishing houses, electronic media, print media, TV) - Professions in administrative services (International Office, universities, DAAD)
- Work in the Foreign Service (e.g. EU, UN, embassies)
- free enterprise (e.g. management, public relations or internationally based companies) and politics.
In the degree programme, you have the choice of completing an internship in a non-university professional environment or a teaching or research internship within the university, depending on where your professional path should lead you. Alternatively, you can also acquire further soft skills and learn other Romance languages that will distinguish and enhance your professional profile.
After successfully completing your Master's degree, you also have the opportunity to do a doctorate.
Admission requirements
Required university degree The admission requirement for the Master's degree programme is evidence of a relevant Bachelor's degree programme with a total of 240 credit points in the field of Romance cultural studies, literature or linguistics with a Romance component of at least 48 CP or evidence of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree that qualifies the student for a profession.
The Examination Committee may link admission to the condition that additional coursework and/or examinations totalling a maximum of 18 CP be completed. In such cases, the degree programme may be prolonged accordingly.Certifications of program-specific knowledge and skills to be submitted prior to admission German skills:

Knowledge of at least one of the Romance languages either French, Italian or Spanish at the B2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" must be demonstrated.It is strongly recommended that you have spent at least one semester abroad gaining knowledge of the country or culture of one of the languages studied in academic or non-academic contexts before beginning your studies. If you have not completed this stay abroad before studying, it is strongly recommended that you do so in the form of a research trip of at least three months (e.g. in connection with your Master's thesis).
