Description
The subject of "Spanisch / Spanish" in the Teaching in Secondary Schools program is oriented based on the requirements of the practice of teaching Spanish in secondary schools.
The program imparts the linguistic, subject-related and teaching-related principles for exercising the teaching profession at secondary schools and collects initial experiences in practical teaching in schools, following academic instruction.
The program qualifies students for academic work and for the socially responsible execution of the teaching profession based on the acquired expertise; that is, through knowledge, qualifications and perspectives.
The essential goals of the university education in the subject of Spanish include:
- Thorough mastery of written and spoken Spanish;
- Familiarity with questions, methods and terms of linguistics and literary studies;
- Capability to examine and apply these methods and terms;
- Familiarity with cultural issues, incorporating the geographical, historical, social, legal, economic and political principles of the respective country;
The capability to independently approach problems of teaching methodology and to elucidate possible solutions.

The content of the subject of "Spanisch / Spanish" takes the four pillars of language sciences (linguistics), literary studies, language practice and culture into consideration, as well as teaching methodology.

The teacher training program in the subject of "Spanisch / Spanish" prepares you for your profession as a teacher, as well as for a broad and diverse range of other employment options.
Even for a student in the teacher training program, the professional goal is not always teaching. In fact, with the State Examination, one often has the same prospects on the labor market as a graduate of a Bachelor program and, if one does not want to teach at a secondary school, there are the options of adult education or university instructor, teaching at language schools or professional academies, or organizing linguistic and cultural exchanges, for example.
