The application and project-based course of studies in the Business Informatics master program leads to a deepening of practical computer science, scientific computing and business administration teachings.
The courses from the field of scientific computing are primarily offered by instructors with practical experience. Together with a two-semester project thesis integrated into the program, this leads to a high level of practical relevance in the course of study.
Major topics
The master program widens and deepens the competencies in the areas of business informatics, computer science and business administration. The emphasis of these areas is due to individual interests.
In addition to various in-depth modules from computer science and business informatics, such as cloud computing, IT security or process modeling, a large selection of business administration modules from the three major topics of "Accounting and Finance," "Market-Based Corporate Management" or "Innovation and Information" is also available. In addition, there are options to select modules with practical relevance, especially from the field of business informatics.
Objectives
A master's degree in Business Informatics – a program that specifically trains IT specialists with business administration know-how – qualifies you to work in managing positions in a wide variety of professional fields. Business informatics specialists are found in nearly all fields of the economy:
IT management, software development, IT consulting, banks or logistics are just a few examples of industries in which there are excellent career prospects. A particularly successful master's program furthermore enables access to a doctorate.
Admission requirements
Required university degree We require proof that you have completed a relevant Bachelor's degree in the fields of Business Informatics, Computer Science or Business Administration or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree qualifying you for a profession. The professionally qualifying university degree must have been passed with an overall grade of 3.2 (German grade scale, lower is better) or 7.3 grade points (higher is better) or better in accordance with § 28 of the General Provisions.
As part of the completed degree program or another degree program, a total of at least 90 credit points (CP) must have been completed in modules from Business Informatics, Computer Science, Mathematics or Business Administration.
Of these, at least 18 CP must have been completed in the fields of Business Information Systems and Business Administration, at least 18 CP in Mathematics and at least 30 CP in Computer Science.
Furthermore,- 6 credit points must be allocated to competences from the modules ‘Information Management’ and either ‘Introduction to Management’ or ’Decision Theory and Finance’ as well as
- either 9 CP must be allocated to competences from the module ’Object-oriented Programming’ or 6 CP to competences from the module ’Software Engineering’ and
- credit points at least to the specified extent must be allocated to competences from at least 3 of the modules
a) ‘Introduction to Statistics’ (6 CP)
b) ‘Operations Research‘ (9 CP)
c) ‘Algorithms and Data Structures’ (9 CP)
d) ‘Database Systems’ (9 CP) and
e) either ‘Basic Real Analysis’ (9 CP) or ‘Basic Linear Algebra’ (9 CP).Course-specific knowledge and skills that must be proven The degree programme's modules and courses are usually taught in English. A German-language course is also possible if requested by all the students in the module or course. The coursework and the examinations can be taken in either German or English, depending on the student's choice. Optional and mandatory courses may include modules imported from Bachelor's degree programmes or other subject areas in the German language, which means the choice may be restricted in some cases.
Therefore, either
- a) English proficiency of at least level C1* of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” must be proven. Proof is provided exclusively by a language certificate from an internationally recognized language test. Purely English-language studies or school certificates are not sufficient!
or - b) English proficiency of at least level B1* of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" and German proficiency of at least level “DSH-2*” must be proven.
