In the Physische Geographie / Physical Geography master's program, you will acquire in-depth knowledge in the subject of geography that will qualify you for professional work in the interdisciplinary sciences. You will acquire scientific and methodological skills and knowledge to describe, analyze, explain, evaluate and forecast structures and functions of landscapes, ecosystemic interactions and material flows in ecosystems of varying dimension with respect to their development, their structure and their dynamics in space.
Major topics
An individual major topic can be chosen from the fields of Climate Impact Research, Environmental Information Systems, Environmental Hydrology, Applied Soil Science or Biodiversity Research.
Objectives
The skills and knowledge acquired in the geographical subject and method modules are complemented and enriched by external elective and profile modules and by an external professional or research internship, which additionally reinforces the vocational orientation, and can be used particularly in the following professional fields:
- Environmental management and resource planning,
- Development cooperation,
- Geomanagement,
- Cartographical information systems,
- Geographic computer science,
- Geographic remote sensing.
Admission requirements
Required university degree Certification of a degree from a subject-relevant bachelor's program in Geography, Geoecology, Geomatics, Environmental Studies (or thematically similar programs), or certification of a comparable domestic or foreign qualifying university diploma.
The professionally qualifying bachelor's degree or comparable university degree must include at least 90 credit points in methodological and subject-based fundamentals of geography, including ancillary disciplines (Cartography, Geoinformatics, Statistics).If the requirements stated above are not met, the examination board will decide on a case-by-case basis. The examination board can require the subsequent completion of additional subject-specific modules of up to 30 credit points. In this case the course of studies may need more time.
