The Media Studies major covers the audiovisual media of film and photography, radio, television and digital media (computer, internet, multimedia configurations, mobile and social media). You will acquire comprehensive analytical, theoretical and historical knowledge and skills, focusing on both research and practice.
Media studies is aimed at students who have a strong interest in various forms of media as well as in the perceptual and linguistic aspects of audiovisual structures.
After graduating, you will be able to examine, reflect on and evaluate audiovisual media in different contexts, as well as design, communicate and supervise audiovisual projects within different contexts. To this end, you will be able to apply the historical, theoretical and analytical knowledge acquired during your studies to a wide variety of audiovisual projects and adopt different media studies perspectives.
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills.
Prospects
A major in media studies can open up a wide range of career opportunities. One possible career path is the broad field of media journalism (film and television and game journalism, science journalism). Other possible areas of employment range from editing television dramas for a broadcaster, overseeing an arts programme on the radio, working for a production company and supervising film projects to cultural management and public relations and educational work for companies, associations and institutions.
The Media Studies major also qualifies students for editorial, organisational and mediating activities in the field of digital media.
The choice of your major subject will decisively shape your professional qualifications profile. In conjunction with one or two minor subjects, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
