Contents
This course offers a combination of language, regional and methodological skills unparalleled in Germany. Fundamental political science knowledge is combined with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa. This also includes in-depth training in a language of the region (Arabic, Persian or Turkish).
After completing the course, you will be able to apply the regional language you have acquired, along with regional and political science skills, to conduct a scientific study of the region.
An integral part of the combined Bachelor's degree is the MarSkills programme, in which you will acquire attractive and future-oriented key skills.
Prospects
As a graduate of this course, you will have access to a wide range of scientific careers (university, research institutions); international and regional institutions and organisations, in particular political institutions, foundations and think tanks, but also intercultural institutions and migration authorities; political consultancy (public administration, associations, institutions and organisations); media, publishing houses and public relations; adult education, cultural institutions and journalism, as well as many other high-level jobs that require professional research skills and information analysis in various areas.
The organisational, communicative, social and intellectual skills you will learn in this degree will be beneficial later in your professional career. The in-depth language training enables professional work as a translator or lecturer and qualifies students for intermediary services in the field of cultural/knowledge transfer in the broadest sense. There is a high demand for the language and intercultural skills of such graduates, especially in the Middle East, who, with their solid knowledge of current and historical discourses in the region, can act as cultural mediators to help overcome pervasive gaps in understanding and knowledge.
The choice of your major subject will decisively shape your professional qualifications profile. In conjunction with one or two minor subjects, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
