In the minor subject “Classical Archaeology”, you will gain a broad grounding in all the sub-areas of classical archaeology – from the Aegean Bronze Age to the Roman Empire. You will learn to define and reproduce the basic concepts of the archaeological sciences as well as epochs and classes of cultural history. You will learn archaeological methods in theory and practice, e.g. the digital documentation of archaeological finds and the interpretation and presentation of these.
Prospects
In your internships, you will gain qualifications for archaeological professions. The teaching of methodological skills will also open opportunities for the students to tap into other professional fields (modern communications, journalism, public relations, project management, culture management, tourism, publishing, adult education, etc.). At the same time, the solid specialist education will lay the foundations for the advanced master’s degree programme “Classical Archaeology/Christian and Byzantine Archaeology”. A doctorate makes access to academic work possible.
A minor subject will help you to extend your professional qualifications profile, which is decisively shaped by the choice of your major subject. In conjunction with your major subject, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
