Changing Majors in Non-NC-Restricted Undergraduate Programs
You can apply for a change of your major / study program if you are already enrolled at Philipps University Marburg and wish to switch to a different undergraduate program (this applies to all programs, including combined bachelor’s degrees, teacher education, or switching between multiple subjects). Since you are transferring from one subject to another, this process is also referred to as a "transfer."
How can I change my major / degree program?
Changing your major / degree program means you must formally and timely enroll in the program or degree you intend to study in the future. If you wish to change into a program that has an NC (Numerus Clausus) restriction, you will need to apply for a spot in the program within the application deadlines. You are bound to the same application deadlines as applicants who are not yet enrolled at Philipps University Marburg.
You can apply for a major change/transfer through the Marvin Portal.
What do I need to be aware of when changing my major / degree program?
If the program you are currently enrolled in at Philipps University Marburg is related to the program you want to transfer to, some of the credits you have earned may be recognized. In this case, you may be placed in a higher semester, which would also require a transfer. Therefore, we strongly recommend having a conversation with the academic advising office of the program you wish to switch to as early as possible and, if applicable, request a placement notice. Please upload this document in its simple form during the application process.
Changing your subject may affect other aspects of your student life, such as funding through BAföG. We strongly recommend taking advantage of the free, non-binding, and anonymous counseling services provided by:
- The General Student Advisory Service (ZAS)
- The academic advising service of your department
- The social affairs department of the AStA
- The social counseling service of the Student Union
Please remember to pay your semester fee within the re-registration period, indicating your matriculation number. A transfer does not extend the re-registration deadline. For more information on transferring to a higher semester, please visit our website under "Major Change / Change of Study Location" in the "Application" section.
