FAQ - After Studying
Exmatriculation
Do I have to exmatriculate after completing my studies in Germany?
If you are an exchange student, you do not have to exmatriculate, because you were only registered for a limited time period anyway at enrollment.
If you are not a foreign exchange student, you must exmatriculate after completing your studies, otherwise you will be exmatriculated "ex officio" and will not receive an exmatriculation certificate, which you may need to present to other universities, administrative offices or later to the pension fund for crediting the university education.
When do I exmatriculate?
Exmatriculation is possible upon request at any time and with immediate effect. However, you can also already apply for an exmatriculation during a semester which does not become effective until the end of the semester. You then keep your student status until the end of the semester. You can find more information on exmatriculation here. Please submit this application for exmatriculation to the registrar's office on time.
Transcript of Records
Where can I get a transcript of records?
You can obtain a transcript of records from the examination office of your respective department.
