Degree Seekers: Professional skills and soft skills for your degree program

Starting your studies in a new country is a significant step. We will be there for you right from the start. Good supervision and support will see you through your program, which includes our orientation and soft skills opportunities as well as MarMento.

Arrival and finding your bearings – Our orientation programs for international students prepare you optimally for your studies even before the start of the semester. In the “Intercultural Training”, for example, you can get to know your new home country in advance, get tips on how to deal with new situations during your degree program and exchange ideas with other international students. This service is of course offered to you free of charge and will be held online so that you can still take part even if you are not yet in Marburg.

Mentoring program: MarMento

In MarMento, our mentoring program, students in higher semesters (mentors) support their new fellow students (mentees) from abroad, especially with subject-specific program-related challenges, making it easier for them to settle in at the university and in Marburg.

MarMento is a win-win process where you will deepen your skills and grow personally both as a mentee and a mentor! Are you new to study abroad and would like support from peers from your department, or are you already in your second or higher semester and would like to expand your intercultural skills and pass on your knowledge? Then become part of MarMento! You can reach the MarMento team at: marmento@uni-marburg.de

MarMento takes place every winter semester since winter semester 2022/23 via MarSkills.

Mastering your degree program successfully

During your degree program (especially the 1st through 3rd semesters), we will offer free workshops to help you get off to a good start in everyday student life at Philipps-Universität Marburg. How do I get organized, what is the best way to study, and how do I stay motivated? – We will answer these questions in our series of workshops for degree seekers. Together with other international students, you will learn practical, simple methods that will help you in your program. This will not only help you get a better understanding of your degree program requirements but will also improve your career opportunities and your integration at the university and in the city.

Another option is the “StudySkills” series: these are free interdisciplinary workshops on all aspects of university studies. You can also expand your profile via compulsory elective modules, such as MarSkills, and even earn credits for them. Improve your German language skills or learn other world languages – you do this at the Language Center (Sprachenzentrum). You can work on your IT skills in the workshops at the University Computer Center (Hochschulrechenzentrum or HRZ).
