Social contacts

Withdrawal and loneliness can be both a consequence and a risk factor for mental health problems. By actively seeking and cultivating social contacts, you break the cycle of negative thoughts and feelings, gain new impetus and have the chance to experience community and connection. Incidentally, this is a basic psychological need.

If you find it difficult or are currently unable to establish contacts and friendly relationships in your immediate study environment, why not see if you would like to try out a student initiative? The topic-related focus of the meetings offers points of contact and conversation and you may be able to actively experience something together with other students. Or you can share your hobby, e.g. music, in a choir or university orchestra.

When you get involved in a larger cause, you immediately experience a sense of purpose and self-efficacy - these are also basic psychological needs and important pillars of mental health.
