03.05.2024 Prof. Sonja Albers and cell division in Archaea

The professor of microbiology from the University of Freiburg presented an inspiring talk at the SYNMIKRO lecture hall.

On 28 and 29 April, we welcomed Prof. Dr. Sonja-Verena Albers to RTG 2937. The professor of microbiology at the Institute of Biology II in Freiburg, who had been a Max Planck Research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg earlier in her career, first engaged in meetings with Marburg researchers. The next day, her talk on "New players in FtsZ-based cell division in Archaea" attracted an audience so large that additional chairs needed to be shoved into the SYNMIKRO lecture hall impromptu.

Sonja loves to combine genetics, molecular microbiology, cell biology and biochemical and biophysical approaches, so she was a perfect guest at our interdisciplinary, cross-boundary RTG. Click here for more information about her science.

Thank you for your visit and the impulses you gave to our PhD and postdoc researchers in particular, Sonja! We hope you enjoyed your "little homecoming" as much as we did.
