15.01.2025 Synthetic Riboswitches: From Plug & Pray towards Plug & Play
Prof. Mario Mörl from Leipzig University inspired his audience with his catchy presentation and in the ensuing in-depth discussion.
On 14 January, we welcomed Mario Mörl to RTG 2937, who is professor of biochemistry/molecular biology at Leipzig University and with his team is working on various research projects focussing on RNA biochemistry. Mario talked about "Synthetic Riboswitches: From Plug & Pray towards Plug and Play" in the SYNMIKRO lecture hall.
The research interests of the Mörl Lab are: transfer RNAs - the impact of modifications on the structure of aberrant and bizarre tRNAs; tRNA nucleotidyltransferases - the enzymatic features of CCA-adding enzymes and how they evolved in order to adapt to their substrates; and synthetic biology - RNA-based regulatory devices represent a promising tool for externally controlled regulation of gene expression. Thank you for the impulses you gave us, Mario! We hope you enjoyed your stay as much as we did.
