A07 - Lienhard Schmitz:
Functional characterization of novel histone phosphorylations
We have identified several new phosphorylation sites in the core and tail regions of histones H2A, H2A.Z and H2B, which form the basis for a bipartite research program. In the first part we want to further explore mitotic H2B serine 6 phosphorylation and investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the relevance of this phosphorylation for mitotic chromosome segregation. In the second part we will focus on new phosphorylations at the histone core regions and investigate their contribution for histone octamer dynamics and chromatin compaction.
