Obituary Dr. Yonggang Zhou
We mourn the loss of our colleague and friend Dr. Yonggang Zhou (✝ 25.04.2016) who has unexpectedly died at the age of 43.
Dr. Yonggang Zhou obtained his PhD in Genetics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. He then joined the lab of Prof. Dr. Ingrid Grummt at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg for postdoctoral training. During this time he made substantial contributions to the understanding of the regulation of rDNA genes by chromatin-dependent mechanisms. Since 2009 he was leading a research group in the Department of Cardiac Development and Remodelling of Prof. Dr. Thomas Braun at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim. His research has uncovered novel roles for chromatin regulating enzymes in muscle differentiation and regeneration.
Dr. Yonggang Zhou was a founding member of the TRR81 and has successfully directed research projects in both funding periods since 2010.
We have lost a brilliant mind, an enthusiastic scientist, and a caring teacher. We will miss his insightful questions, his thoughtful advice, and his friendship.
Our thoughts are with his wife and son.
